How much does it cost to sponsor a child?
We ask for a minimum donation of C$47.50 a month for new sponsors, or C$35 for a and Hope House sponsorship . C$35

Will this cost rise as the child grows up?
In general, if the cost of sponsorship rises, we tell donors. However, existing donors may carry on paying their existing rate unless the difference becomes too great.

Can I sponsor more than one child
Yes. You can sponsor as many as you wish.

Who can sponsor a child?
Anyone who can afford the regular monthly donations can sponsor a child. There are no restrictions – old, young, married, single, groups, schools, classes, teams, associations etc.etc, – all are all suitable sponsors.

So how do you pay for your costs, newsletters, information etc.etc?
Where people pay for sponsorship through payroll giving, VISA, Master Card etc.etc, so that the tax is already reclaimed, we cover the costs of sponsorship from our general funds. Where people pay us directly, and gift aid their donation, we can reclaim this tax and the tax is used to pay for the costs of sponsorship for them and others.

May we write to the children we sponsor?
We always welcome letters to the children, and the children always like getting letters. We can also help with translations, where necessary. However, we do not make children reply to every letter or write a thank you letter for every gift. Some children do so themselves and sometimes they correspond frequently with sponsors, especially if they speak the same language.

With the information technology now so prevalent and varied, grown so fast now we can also make arrangements facility to contact your sponsored children, to communicatinge by SKYPE or MSN/Yahoo video conferencing from time to time.

Can we choose the child we sponsor?
Basically, no. There are privacy issues involved in sending out details about of children to potential sponsors. You can tell us what particular type of child you would like to sponsor (boy,girl, approximate age) and you can choose among the which villages around the world where they you would like them to live in. If you would like to sponsor a special needs child (we have quite a few children physically impaired by polio, or land mines, and so on etc.) you can talk to us and we will see which children are available for sponsorship.

For how long do I commit myself to be a sponsor?
You commit yourself for an indefinite period of time. Ideally, and we would hope that you will help your sponsored child until he or she has either finished their education, at least completed primary school. But Also, we would like to encourage you to continue supporting "your" child through secondary school, high school and possibly university.

What happens if "my child" gets sick?
A doctor will be contacted in the local area and your child will get treatment and medicine.

Are the donations tax-deductible?
Absolutely! HOPE Canada is a registered Canadian non-profit Charity, so any donations made are tax-deductible. A charitable donations tax receipt will be issued by the end of February for any donations made and received by December 31st of the previous year.

Where does my money go?
Your money goes towards the SAVE Precious Children programs and expenses associated with running the home.These, primarily include: general operations (including food, water, clothes,toys, electricity, heat, plumbing, laundry, staffing, etc.etc); education expenses (including teachers for the school or tuition for off-site schools, books and supplies, uniforms, extra-curricular activities);, and health related expenses (both routine checkups and vaccinations)as well as urgent care. A small portion, up to 20% or less, is used towards management,administrative, and fundraising expenses.

What happens to the child I am helping, if I must discontinue my sponsorship?
If your circumstances change and you can no longer provide financial support for your sponsored child,we will immediately seek a new sponsor who is waiting in line to sponsor a child.

Will I be the only person sponsoring the child I am helping?
In many cases you will be the only person who is sponsoring your child. However, some children have very high medical bills and/or special needs, requiring additional therapies. In order to cover these expenses, we may assign more than one sponsor to for these children. If you would like to be the only sponsor for a particular child, we will be glad to discuss the total monthly care cost with you.

Is it possible to visit a sponsored child?
Yes, sponsors have told us many times that meeting their sponsored child was among the most rewarding experiences of their lives. We are delighted to help arrange special visits between sponsors and sponsored children. All visits must be approved by and arranged through HOPE Canada.

What if my sponsored child dies?
Unfortunately, it is a fact of life that sometimes children die, and sadly this reality is more frequent in the developing world. Accordingly, HOPE Canada uses its best efforts to support an environment that increases a child's chance to not only survive, but to thrive. However, in the event that your sponsored child dies, you will be notified immediately. While you will be given the opportunity to sponsor another child and bless his or her life with your support, we do understand the relationship that you will have developed with your sponsored child, and will certainly honour and support your need to grieve and cease sponsorship if you decide to do so.

How often will I receive news on my sponsored child?
You will receive a current child report and picture several times per year. Social workers and staff in your child's country write the progress reports after observing and interacting with your child.
